Steve Jobs out of sight, never far from our thoughts [or TV sets]

April 12, 2009

Apple’s CEO hasn’t made a appearance or even been spotted out n’ about let alone made any sort of statements or public utterances for months. Still whether it’s rank speculation about his health, rumors of a Cupertino corner office succession plan or all the wonders he has wrought, Steve Jobs is anything but forgotten.

Quoting the Wall Street Journal, Wired reports that Steve Jobs has kept his hands on the reins of creative and corporate power during his medical leave.

Jobs works from home on Apple’s “most important strategies and products” and is also a key player in the development of future projects, the Journal said. “He regularly reviews products and product plans, and was particularly involved in the user interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month,” these people say.

And, that’s the kind of authoritative source, feel good information investors like to hear.

Channeling the inner Jobs

First, there’s Tina Fey on 30 Rock doing her best keynote impression, including Steve’s signature black turtle neck, blue jeans and ever present clicker. Honestly, it’s hard to objectively say (as usual, I think Tina’s done a brilliant job) how good she is because at this point of her popularity, the NBC star could probably release a compilation of celebrity flatulence impressions (vinyl only, because nothing matches the warmth or saturation of analog) and it would sell like hot cakes.

Then there’s Chevy Chase, who also riffs on the Cupertino CEO’s keynote thing, on Chuck, which is also an NBC program (coincidence? I think not). However, unlike some twits who think they only see Jobs, I’m pretty sure this other former Saturday Night Live alum is doing a composite of a bunch of characters—most prominently Chase himself—so don’t get too upset when he does stuff Apple’s over man wouldn’t be seen doing dead.

That is, don’t miss Chase bowing and saying “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” to a Japanese corporate dignitary. Brilliant…
