‘Congratulations, Frank, it’s a PC’

April 15, 2009

A humorous parody of Microsoft’s “Laptop hunters” series of television commercials has been built around “Homeless Frank,” who’s been tasked with finding the portable of his dreams for less than $1,000. Like a lot regular folks, however, Frank would rather fail up and take the cash rather than the piece of crap Windows notebook he can get for that much money.

If Microsoft were to actually use real people in their laptop hunter TV commercials, why not choose Frank? As he aptly and pointedly says, ‘I’m poor, not stupid’ and that’s really the whole point of this amusing parody.

NSFW—There’s some mild profanity in this video,
so use your headphones or reduce the volume.

Frank, like about one-in-ten or 10 percent of the computer buying public in these United States, would rather not have a Windows laptop for less than $1,000. And, although I’d personally would go for clearance MacBook or MacBook Air via an online reseller with a phat bundle of free stuff, I can certainly understand Frank’s point of view—if it’s not what he wants, he’d rather fail up and take cash…

What would you take if given the choice?

macs are designed for idiots, of which most mac users are, they are inherently less technical than pc users and look for the ” for dummies” type product in a computer.. everyone knows it, just be with the reality of things people

  2. ncaissie:

I agree with Macshave. You are absolutely right.

  3. AG:

I am so sorry… But most of the “for Dummies” books and teaching are for Windows users, which in reality are the less technical ones. Mac and OS X users are more savvy and like things that work period and is easy to use and interact with…

  4. Ken:

The designation of Mac users as more technically inept is just wrong. They are no worse than drool cup Windows users.

They do seem to be a bit clueless for paying a premium for a PC and using it as a part of their self image while swallowing whatever marketing swill Apple puts out followed by this:

You would think walking through any large corporation would subject you to the noise of exploding PCs and the people idle from BSODS and viruses. Quite scary to to think that millions of units are purchased by these people as fourth and fifth gen replacements in a mass demonstration of battered wife or Stockholm Syndrome.

The laws of economy of scale and the time tested principle of a single source monopoly pricing and the effect on consumers is repealed in the Apple Universe. Got to keep those special Intel, Nvidia, Samsung and Asus 23rd century factories humming,eh?

I don’t believe I’ve ever watched a group of people celebrate fat margins so enthusiastically considering it came from their own wallets. And ridicule people who find it foolish to spend more on the same components.

By the way, the people in the Mac and PC commercials were also actors. How about turning your searing intellect and superior ability to separate fact from fiction on those?

It’s mind boggling to see how a fanatical Machead will totally ignore the simple fact that if reality was like the P.T. Barnum slogans

I remember when people would get DVD and CD players repaired when you had to get them in specialty electronic stores

  5. Ken:

Sorry for the jumbled ending. These tiny window for text entry suck.

    I meant to say:

It’s mind boggling to see how a fanatical Macheads will totally ignore the simple fact that if reality was like the P.T. Barnum slogans so endlessly parroted by the faithful, the economy would be at a standstill.

I remember when people would get DVD and CD players repaired when you had to get them in specialty electronic stores at inflated prices. Bragging about resale value is just admitting you overpaid and there are are still other suckers willing to buy old tech.

I’m unaware of any functional difference in a $60 DVD player or the one I bought for $600 in 1999. But I’d be happy to find a sucker to pay me $100 bucks for the old one.

Apple has zero traction once the discussion turns to hardware pricing, especially if the discussion includes choices and options.

“These tiny window for text entry suck.”

Tiny text window? If you had a Mac running Safari, you could simply click and drag to the corner of the text to resize it, making it easier to craft and deliver your message instead.

Oh wait, you bought a PC to save money, not do actual work… silly me!

Thank you so much for the high traction irony anyway.

  7. Ken:

You’re correct. I downloaded Safari and it let me resize it. Where can I apply for your job leaving comments on a blog.

I bought a PC so my choice and options were much larger.

Speaking of irony, do you know your name is the same forward or backward? Does that that mean your traction is in reverse?

  8. Ken:

It also works in Chrome and Opera.
