YouTube integration coming in QuickTime X
The next big release of OS X, aka Snow Leopard, is expected some time this summer and, although many features are still shrouded in mystery, ever more information about what we can expect wriggles free almost daily now.
AppleInsider reports that the mothership will strengthen its already tight relationship with Google’s YouTube online video sharing service. Specifically, Snow Leopard OS X 10.6’s QuickTime X Player will support integrated video sharing functionality that doesn’t require a browser, allowing users to compress and upload content directly. According to AppleInsider:
In particular, the application will let users take any supported video file and upload it directly to YouTube. Users will be prompted to enter their YouTube username and password, and QuickTime X Player will take care of the rest. This includes converting the movie into a file optimized for the video sharing service and then uploading it to the appropriate user account.

To kill a vampire?
Google Chairman Eric Schmidt is a member of Apple’s board and the two companies have been strong advocates for each others’ products, as well as open web standards in general. Prominent collaborations therein include the iPhone’s inclusion upconverted H.264 YouTube content and Google’s Maps service, as well as the companies’ shared use of Apple’s open source WebKit browser engine.
Thereupon, Adobe’s ubiquitous and simply awful Flash, which is the delivery layer for most of YouTube’s browser delivered content, can’t be made to go away with a single stroke. Still, a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step and Apple + Google are already at least potty stop down the road…
