Is Apple positioning iPhone for small business?

Is Apple positioning iPhone for small business?Apple has begun a new advertising campaign aimed at small business to go along with a wide variety of business apps in the Apple App Store for that same market segment of smart phone users.

The Cupertino company seems to be aggressively marketing to entrepreneurs and small businesses, which is probably a very good fit for their products. The Blackberry / RIM products have made excellent headway in the corporate world of suits and ties, but the iPhone may well be a better symbol, and a better fit, for smaller businesses. The new ad campaign makes that clear, as do the number of business productivity applications that are available in the App Store.

All told, the App Store has more than 1,600 business-oriented apps that can be a boon to small business owners and senior staff, according to a Money story. They are as varied as they are inventive. They can turn your iPhone into an on-the-fly voice recorder, show you the yellow pages, find you the right place for a business lunch, track your packages, keep track of your airplane flights, turn your iPhone into a business calculator, display the vest-pocket MBA, handle your to-do list, track your expenses, and hundreds of other time-saving and efficiency things. Consider that one device can do all that and still fit in your pocket and the device becomes very attractive for small business.

While it is not possible to do all of one’s work on an iPhone (if nothing else, it is not exactly easy to type on) it can become an important addition to any professional’s bag of tools. The people in tall office towers wearing gray suits and power ties may not understand the versatility of the iPhone, but the new generation of entrepreneurs and small business people get it in spades. Put a tiny, useful and flexible computer in your pocket and you can be a more productive person all day, wherever you happen to be.
