Trouble with OS X 10.5.7 Update? Here’s what to do…
By now you’ve probably read about some of the problems that some people, maybe even you, have been experiencing with Apple’s just-released operating system update. Here’s a quick look at what’s gone wrong and few a simple techniques that might get you out of the woods.
If you are looking for flame-free discussion of software issues, MacFixIt is perhaps the best source for news and information. They’ve published a listing of the most commonly reported Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update issues, an enumeration which largely mirrors MacInTouch reader reports (another flame free site for OS X, etc discussion):
• Bluetooth glitches: Doesn’t work immediately upon the first reboot after installing the update, though a second restart seems to do the trick
• Printing problems: Some users have experienced crash on print issues. Try removing printers (System Preferences -> Print & Fax) and manually add them back in.
— Other users that simply could not print noted reinstalling the driver rectified the problem• Language-related issues: Some users report that their foreign language Macs are reverting to English after the update, which has been a recurring OS X update issue. MacFixIt advises running this script in Terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal):
sudo/System/Library/CoreServices/Language Chooser.app/Contents/MacOS/Language Chooser
— Follow the onscreen directions to rechoose your language
• Video driver problems: A very few users have reported MacBooks with
displays that have gone black after applying the update

When it comes to Mac system update issues and general operating system malaise, there are two fixes that many swear by (and others call wastes of time): 1.) Re-installing the update, but using the Combo Update (link above), 2.) starting up from your Mac’s OS X Install Disc 1 and repairing permissions.
In fact, regardless of the size or (lack of ) complexity of the OS update, I’ve found that installing the Combo Update and then booting from my Mac’s OS X Install Disc 1 and repairing permissions just as a matter of course.

i have just updated to the 10.5.7 and have found that it does seem to work alittle faster. The screen res seems to be sharper. I have not used the print functions yet, but will be trying that out over the weekend to make sure that it working correctly.
