Apple’s improves white MacBook specs nicely
Our favorite fruit company has for the second time this year quietly improved the base specs of their white polycarbonate consumer notebook. This round sees this best-selling product get a faster processor and memory, plus a bigger hard drive.
As of this writing, the white MacBook’s product page specs and Apple Store both show the upgrades, though as of this writing, this product’s Support Technical Specifications doesn’t—go figure.
What are the big changes? For the same $999, you now get a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo processor (up by 130MHz), 2GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM (up from 6667MHz) and 160GB hard disc (up from 120GB, still 5400rpm).
Back in January of this year, Apple upgraded the chipset and integrated graphics in the white MacBook from Intel’s X3100, which doesn’t completely blow, to the well regarded nVidia 9400M.
So, if you are one of those people holding out for more (whatever), is Apple’s entry-level consumer notebook now enough to get you to buy? Or, are you like me and waiting for this year’s back-to-school promotion?
