Unibody MacBook gets a new, better display, too
Earlier this week Apple’s white $999 MacBook got a slightly faster CPU and RAM, as well as the larger hard disc drive. Today, we learn that the company has also recently upgraded the displays used in its unibody MacBook.
Posters on the Notebookreview.com forums (via Wired) note that Apple’s unibody MacBook arrives with a pleasant surprise baked in—a higher quality LCD panel from AU Optronics product that is said to be roughly on par with the one found in the MacBook Air.
BigZAJ—”I just got a new Macbook in the office for my boss and it has a screen I have not seen with model 9CA8, it looks decidedly better than the 9C89 screen that I have.”
jjahshik32—”how much better is the screen? Better viewing angles or the colors look more vivid?”
BigZAJ—”Better black levels, richer colors and slightly better viewing angles. By that I mean Much better at about 35-40 degrees off center, about the same at extreme angles.”
This stealth LCD panel upgrade of the unibody MacBook is a welcome addition, as the display has been one of the most consistently cited flaws, in addition to the lack of FireWire, in this product.
So, we saw the white MacBook upgraded with a faster processor, faster RAM and bigger hard disc—for the same money as before on Wednesday. Moreover, although the unibody display upgrade happened some time in April, we also learned about it this week.
Not a bad week all in all…
