Apple trying to coordinate Jobs return with public event, product launch

June 5, 2009

While the rest of us poured over rumor reports and speculated feverishly, Apple’s board of directors was getting weekly updates from Steve’s personal physician. While he’s been getting better, we’ve all been getting ulcers.

Quoting a person “who has seen Mr. Jobs in recent weeks,” Wall Street Journal reports that the Apple CEO’s recovery is ‘coming along.’

“He was one real sick guy,” adds this person. “Fundamentally, he was starving to death over a nine-month period. He couldn’t digest protein. [But] he took corrective action.”

The Rising

Further, there’s one more detail in the Journal’s write up that is sure to drive the media and fan boys over the top in a frenzy of speculation—company managers are “now trying to coordinate Mr. Jobs return with a product launch or public event.” Oy vey, who but Apple could plan and execute the third coming of Steve Jobs and the Jesus phone all on the same day!

“He likes to surprise people, but we don’t think that’s likely to happen at WWDC,” said Richard Doherty, an analyst with the Envisioneering Group.

Thereupon, Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster says that Apple will announce the iPhone 3 at the Worldwide Developer Conference, though product might not ship next week. Thereupon, a late June or early July ship date would coincide nicely with first-generation iPhone owners expiring wireless service contracts, making them eligible for upgrade pricing and any other gimmes AT&T and Apple might be planning.

So, now that it has been “confirmed” that Steve’s healthy and coming back, what will the venue be and when will it all happen? Will we see him before the end of the month?
