How to: Tweet your iPhoto pictures with iPhoto2Twitter

June 10, 2009

Tweeting a photo that has already been uploaded to the web is as easy as right clicking (control clicking) to get that image’s address, then just pasting that into your Twitter client (browser window) and then you may tweet at will, or willfully, as the case may be.

So, how do you share pictures stored in iPhoto without first uploading them to the infernal interwebs (that’s just so 20th Century)? This is a question that will no longer bedevil compulsive social media mavens.

Blue Crowbar Software is the solution for sharing your iPhoto pictures via Twitter from within Apple’s consumer-grade photo editing and management software.

iPhoto2Twitter (576K) allows the non-paying user to send 500 x 500 pixel images with minimal fuss or muss:

Fire up iPhoto, choose the image you want to tweet, then…

1. From the File menu, select Export (⌘ + ⇧ + E)

2. Click the iPhoto2Twitter tab

3. Type your tweet (ie 140 character limit includes
the image address, too)

4. Select image size (paying customers only)

5. Click Export (photo will be sent to TwitPic)

As mentioned, iPhoto2Twitter limits image size for shareware users (non-paying customers) to 500 x 500 pixels and 4MB. However, those willing to share a little of their money (€4.95, $6.93) can get the image size limitation lifted, though the data size is still capped at 4MB.

iPhoto2Twitter is compatible with iPhoto ’08 or ’09, and requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or higher. For high-end snappers, Blue Crowbar also offers Aperture2Twitter, which sells for (€5.95, $8.35).
