Psystar says, ‘When life gives you apples, make applesauce’

July 2, 2009

The Miami, Florida-based Mac clone maker says it’s ready to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy and get back to battling Cupertino. The company, which is due back in court to face likely oblivion at the hands of Apple legal, is still full of fight and chutzpah.

A new report details the upstart’s continued efforts to sell PC boxes preloaded with Apple’s OS X. And, as has become habit for the feisty Floridian clone maker, every time it seems that Apple’s got them cornered, they release a “new” model.

“As you all may already be aware, in late May Psystar filed for Chapter 11 protection,” said Psystar said in the e-mail obtained Computer Reseller News. “Although this was critical to our continued daily operations, we now are ready to emerge and again battle Goliath,” adding that, “When life gives you apples, make applesauce.”

That’s a very nice little quip.

Here kitty, kitty…

With all of that said, PsyStar’s latest is an Intel Nehalem-based tower, the Open 7, which starts at $1,500 and rapidly escalates in price. It joins a product line that starts at $600 for a 2.5GHz Dual Core mini tower and goes all the way up to the OpenServ 2600, with an MSRP of $3,300.

All of this is well and fine, but sooner or later PsyStar’s going to run out of defense and delaying tactics (i.e. Apple doesn’t own rights to OS X, this little bankruptcy diversion), leaving hundreds perhaps thousands of customers in the lurch.

That is, the problem with riding the tiger is that when PsyStar falls off, and they will, Apple’s going to eat them whole…

What’s your take?

how do you file for bankruptcy in May then emerge from it in June?

what kind of scam is that?

Sounds more like a tactic rather than a necessity.
