Mac tablet: Apple building 10, 13, 15 inch units running OS X
The story of the year has legs like a creepy crawler — even after it loses a few, new ones (and more) grow to replace them. Moreover, today’s rumor posits that at least prototype or perhaps pre-production unit was seen running OS X and not the iPhone OS.
Gizmodo is reporting a rumor fresh “from a source that has always been 100 percent reliable.” Thereupon, with a large grain of salt taken for good measure, an unnamed OEM with strong ties to Apple — “it’s not Foxconn” — is said to be working on two Aluminum touchscreen prototypes which are much larger than the previously rumored 10 inch model — 13 and 15 inches in size, respectively.

Moreover, these prototypes are in addition to the 10-inch model that’s been rumored repeatedly over the last year or so.
Redefining the category before it’s born…
Perhaps the most interesting tidbit in this story is that at least of these prototype or pre-production units was seen “running Mac OS X 10.5″ as opposed to the iPhone OS, which to date has been considered the odds on favorite operating system for any Apple product in this class.
The existence of larger tablet devices that would presumably cost a good deal more, competing directly with existing products would seem to be at odds with rumors that Apple is readying an updated white MacBook.
Then again, these products, assuming any of them will ever see the inside of an Apple Store, won’t necessarily be concurrent in the marketplace…
