Assuming all goes well with this particular patch, the second in about three weeks, cross platform Open XML compatibility will once again be available to users. If I were an Office 2008 user, I’m pretty sure I’d wait to see how this update affects others before applying it myself.

The industry leading graphics chip maker has said repeatedly that materials and manufacturing issues in its products have been solved. Yet, the company has again told shareholders they’ve spent another huge sum to rectify this non-existent problem, bringing their two year total for product replacement and repair to well over $300 million.

Apple has released a software update to OS X Leopard, probably the last major update before Snow Leopard is released next month, which includes a number of improvements and repairs several security flaws.

Many of the white MacBooks the mothership has sold for the last several years exhibit the same problem — cracking of the enclosure around the palm rests, hinges and ports. As often happens, however, Apple has removed any reference to the issue from its own support forums and, when confronted directly, blames the user.
