Quicktime X Preferences 1.0: Get some features back
Apple’s taken a lot of heat for the features it took out of QuickTime as part of the transition to version “X.” However, they knew the criticism was coming, so Cupertino included a copy of QuickTime 7 to keep the critics at arm’s length, but that just leaves us with two half measures.
Megabyte Computing Solutions has created Quicktime X Preferences 1.0 in order to put a few of those missing features (release notes via MacInTouch) “back” where they belong. Granted, the current iteration of QuickTime probably isn’t Apple’s final word — think back to the speed bumped transition from iMovie 6 to version 7 — but for the time being this is as good as it gets.

Specifically, QuickTime Preferences 1.0 gives the user access to command-line only settings, including rounded corners, simultaneous recording, autoplay, display of closed captions and subtitles, exiting of fullscreen mode when switching applications, recent documents, and title bar and controller visibility. As implied by its name, you can access these missing features via a preference pane in System Preferences.
Obviously, there are still plenty o’ stuff missing features from QuickTime X — clip editing and open image sequence, for example — but having cake with no a la mode is better than no cake at all.

The setting for Number of Recent Documents to Disable doesn’t work. I quit and restart QuickTime Player X before and after as well.

It seems that the options here are pretty worthless to me.
Who cares about rounded corners? What about file format settings? Export settings, bit rates etc?

Works great guys. Looking forward to the next version with more settings! Would love to start in full screen when ticking a movie.
Thanks for this, CP
