New Macs said coming ‘in the next several weeks’
With Mac sales chugging right along, as in years past, the company is likely preparing to update its popular prosumer iMac desktop and consumer/student portable. However, these products have already seen big updates this year — can we expect anything more than slightly faster processors and a little more hard disc?
Quoting Wedge Partners — don’t think I wanna go drinking with those guys — Barrons reports, updated iMacs and MacBooks will be arriving “in the next several weeks,” which should come as no surprise as that will put us in October — so, it’s time for new, tweaked or whatever Macs.
Thereupon, the Wedgies speculate what’s going to happen to the MacBook “is likely to be limited. Seems likely to me, too, but I’d love to see the current 2.13GHz model lose $150 off the price and come with either a combo optical drive or no optical drive at all. Of course, Apple should maintain its $999 price point with a slightly faster processor, slightly bigger hard drive and SuperDrive.
Further, and this has been rumored/expected for some time now already, Wedge says to look for an iMac that sports a “thinner, organic design, likely with smoothed or rounded edges.” Here again, the world would be that much more beautiful if Apple would give us a $799 unit — think the cheap iPhone, iPod touch — I, we, everybody needs one.
If rumors were products, then…
What are your wishes and druthers for the MacBook and iMac product lines? The iMac product line really is overdue for a significant upgrade.
And, will Apple update the AppleTV (See also: Refurbished Apple TVs get big price cuts, too) ahead of the holiday? It’s widely speculated that the current version of Steve’s “hobby” is due either for an inglorious death or a radical revision…
What’s your take?
