The Miami, Florida-based maker of Hackintosh computers — whitebox PCs running a hacked version of Apple’s operating system — has changed law firms, been fined for destroying evidence and even made a trip through bankruptcy court, but they have yet to run low on chutzpah.

Every time people look at Apple subjects on the Web today, there is another new rumor about the Beatles coming to iTunes as a part of tomorrow’s announcements, although there does not seem to be a positive consensus.

Although the general specifications and features have been known for months, with plenty of third-party add-ons confirming this information, it seems last minute technical difficulties could hobble the retail roll out of new camera-equipped iPods, leaving questions about when product will hit store shelves.

Apple’s taken a lot of heat for the features it took out of QuickTime as part of the transition to version “X.” However, they knew the criticism was coming, so Cupertino included a copy of QuickTime 7 to keep the critics at arm’s length, but that just leaves us with two half measures.

Those increasingly ubiquitous red DVD vending machines found in the foyers of supermarkets and big box retailers have caught the attention of the movie studios, grabbing market share from traditional retail rental outlets like Blockbuster and Family Video. If the idea that movie rentals should cost just a buck, even Apple’s iTunes could find itself losing sales to the upstart.

For the user of a 17-inch MacBook Pro, the savings might not add up to a dollar over the course of a year. However, when spread across the 10 million or so Macs, Apple will sell over the next year, the savings in terms of dollars and kilowatts add up quickly.
