Pining for Jobs [and the fjords] ahead of the new iMac launch
This fall’s Mac refresh is turning into a fairly substantive affair. What pundits thought would be a simple speed bumping of the iMac and MacBook has turned into a wider ranging makeover of the company’s computer and input device product lines.
Whenever a company wants to sell a new device with an embedded radio, like a Bluetooth wireless mouse or keyboard, they have to submit it to the Federal Communications Commission for testing and, they hope, approval. Engadget or, just as likely, one of the their Huli jing stumbled onto a new Apple Bluetooth keyboard mouse in the FCC database — being a government organ they must keep such things public.
Thereupon, about the only things we know about these devices is that they carry new model numbers — A1314 and A1296, respectively — and more than likely the keyboard doesn’t include a numeric keypad (too small).
For their part, AppleInsider says that the new mouse “somehow enable iPhone-style kinetic scrolling,” which is a rather interesting concept and sounds very Applesque, and is made of Aluminum, which seems odd and doesn’t sound very likely (can you say shiny gray fingers?).
A cornucopia of new!
In addition to a new mouse and keyboard, we’re expecting Apple to announced redesigned iMacs, as well as speedbumped MacBooks and Mac minis.
Regarding Apple’s consumer portable, it’s believe Apple will introduced a faster model at or near the current $999 price point, while reducing the current 2.13GHz model to perhaps as low as $799 a la similar price-cutting in the iPod touch and iPhone product lines.
Perhaps the most interesting question left unanswered in this recent spate of rumor reports is whether Apple will offer them up at a media event of some kind. Likely not, but Steve Jobs recent performance outing fresh iPods has only left us pine, pine, pining for more…
What’s your take?
