Microsoft’s first shop cribs heavily on Apple Store
Yes, great artists do steal, but there is an art to larceny. However, watching this video of the opening of Redmond’s Scottsdale, Arizona retail store, seeing how it’s designed, the employees dressed and customers greeted with whoops and high fives leaves one feeling cheapened.
One would think that Microsoft would be able to manage at least a veneer of originality in the layout, design and staffing of its first retail store. But, although there are some superficially cosmetic differences, it’s pretty much just a blatant copy of the Apple Store.

Well, if you don’t have an original idea in your head, then what else is there to do? Hire people that do and give them license to “create.”
But, even when allowing others to take the lead, one still has to be able to present or at least grasp a sense of vision.
Oh well, we are after all talking about Microsoft, the same people who “created” Vista, Plays for Sure and the Zune…
What’s your take?

yes indeed. i blatant ripoff. same big glass entrance, same regtangular tables wtih laptops on them the same way as they’re layed out at the apple store, same employee colored shirts to designate different roles, they even ripped the lineup of employees to enter the store for grand opening, yelling, clapping, hollering.
purely pathetic. MS bashes apple yet tries so hard to try to be exactly like them….

Um…the layout is the same, yes. However, there is whole heck of a lot of differences. Lots of bells and whistles. The surface tables are awesome. You have to just pick up an Xbox controller and then it let’s you play it on the video wall.
