No Chrome for Mac? Google’s Brin still embarrassed 13 months later
Once again the search giant co-founder has popped up in public to express his irritation at the lack of a Mac version of Chrome. Moreover, he says the company he helped create should have shipped the WebKit browser simultaneously with the PC iteration way, way back in August of last year — apparently neither his discomfort nor his opinion count for much.
DigitalBeat is reporting comments by Google co-founder Sergey Brin at the Web 2.0 Summit where he made a surprise appearance. Although he generally praised his company’s work, when queried about the status of Chrome for Mac Brin voiced a measure frustration with the lack of tangible progress.
“The timing of that has been one of the disappointments of Chrome project for me,” said Brin. “This delay is something that many of us still suffer through.”
He went on to add that he has been happy with Chrome overall, but if he had his way, Chrome for Mac would be available in a public beta right now, and in fact would have launched at the same time as the PC version.

Thereupon, Google CEO Eric “I was a board level corporate mole” Schmidt said that the faithful can expect by Chrome on the Mac by Christmas.
“[A] lot of very sophisticated people are using Macs now and we need to get a version of Chrome out for that, which we’ll have in a couple of months,” said the former Apple board member at a recent event in New York event.
Of course, there is a public alpha of Chrome for Mac, but even Brin says that it leaves much to be desired in terms of stability. So, as I have suggested for the last year, if it’s sandboxed tabs and processes running at warp speed in a chewy, nougaty WebKit core, then its MesaDynamics’ Stainless you should be downloading and enjoying, instead of whining about what Google [still] hasn’t done…

I have said it over and over again, forget about Chrome and start using Stainless. Stainless has been great.
