How to: Delete a Time Machine back up directory
Looking to free a big ol’ chunk of drive space? Is your Time Machine back up directory giving you grief and you’d just rather start over again? Here’s a quick and easy way to just make it go away.
Recently, I spent several frustrating hours trying to get my balky Time Machine back up directory to behave — it claimed I didn’t have the appropriate permissions to use it. Well, in the search for answer to solving that problem (Enter Time Machine -> select Use Previous Disk and/or rebuild Permissions using Utilities from your Mac’s System Disk), I also discovered a way to permanently delete said bag of hurt.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Go to the Finder then enter Time Machine.
2. Navigate to the backup folder then click on the “cog wheel” on the finder bar and choose:
3. Select “Delete All Backups of …” (see image above)
