Woz: I’ll buy the Mac tablet ‘if there is such a thing’
It goes without saying that Steve Wozniak, the hardware genius behind the original Apple computer, will buy anything will an Apple logo on it — dude’s got taste. Still, it’s funny that Woz would add his voice to the growing chorus of people who want a Mac tablet (a.k.a. iPod touch on steroids, iSlate, etc.), too.
On Wednesday, in his role as chief scientist at Fusion-io, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak was on hand in Salt Lake for the company to announce that IBM would be using the company’s technology in an upcoming server product.
That’s nice, but what about the tablet?
The The Wall Street Journal was there, too, and asked other Steve whether he would be buying the Mac tablet when it comes out next year.
“If there is such a thing. I buy everything Apple comes out with,” said Woz and then added, “There is no such thing.â€
To whit, Fusion-io President David Flynn interjected, “You’re talking to a guy who has seven [navigation] systems in his car. So, he will definitely be buying it.â€
Well, I don’t have one GPS, let alone seven, but I’ll definitely be buying a Mac tablet; maybe a couple…

Woz can afford to buy just about anything… sight unseen. The rest of us objective consumers have to see what the product delivers.
To wit…
Apple’s OS – meh… No compelling reason to switch.
iPhone – impressive but needs multi-tasking and much better privacy features. It also needs to improve their reception issues:

iTouch – also impressive but it could do more (see Archos).
Apple will never, ever compete on cost. They have never done so in it’s 30+ year history (except for the under-powered mini-mac trying to run it’s bloated OS).
With the arrival of competing technology in the smartphone arena – Apple may have peaked. That’s a shame and it’s probably something you didn’t want to hear.
