iMac, mac mini driving big holiday quarter
Yes, Apple is having difficulty getting its arms around 27-inch iMac dead-on-arrival and display issues, but the bigger problem appears to be the simple fact that the company can’t make enough of these highly desirable all-in-one computers as an analyst’s sales estimates point to booming sales.
Mac Blorge was among the first to report Apple’s apology over shipping delays for its new 27-inch iMacs. Although the company didn’t give a reason for the hold ups, most pundits assumed the mothership was holding back in order to address quality issues, centering around this model’s huge display.
Nevertheless, Business Insider has a different take on the issue. According NPD data quoted Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, Apple’s November Mac sales are tracking 21 percent higher for November and October are tracking 21 percent higher over last year’s blow quarter.
Further, Mac volume in October alone is up 7 percent year-over-year, and the recently revised iMac and Mac mini are leading the way with desktop tallies up 74 percent over last year.
Just getting warmed up
Were that not enough Munster adds the November data “increases our confidence in slight Mac unit upside in the quarter.”
With December Mac sales typically accounting for half of the holiday quarter’s total, that estimate might be slightly low…
What’s your take?
