PsyStar website is back, Rebel EFI [and a t-shirt] available for sale

December 20, 2009

What a difference a day and another attorney can make. As expected, the Florida-based company is indeed back — a bit faster than I had thought — and selling selling their hacker’s toolkit for installing Mac OS X on generic PC hardware.

A lawyer representing PsyStar in a California federal court court last week told the world, quoting PsyStar president Rudy Pedraza, that the company will be “shutting things down immediately. They will not be in business.”

Now, according to PCWorld, another lawyer representing PsyStar in a case filed in Florida that has yet to come to trial, says that, “Regrettably, [that other guy] was misquoted in an early story that seems to have been picked up elsewhere. Psystar does not intend to shut down permanently.”

Misquoted? That’s some serious doublespeak. But, hey, we’re talking about lawyers and the Pedraza brothers, which I said then and will say again “have certainly exuded an easy, natural sleaziness.”

A whiskey, tango, foxtrot moment…

Thereupon, PsyStar.com is back online with just two products available for sale: Rebel EFI (a bit of software that a long-time hackintosher claims was stolen from him) and a t-shirt. That’s it.

Here’s hoping the federal judge hearing PsyStar vs. Apple in Florida will kick the former Mac cloner — they’ve been permanently enjoined from ever selling hackintoshes again — to the curb just as brutally as Judge Allsop in California did (but a good bit faster)…

What’s your take?

Apple will simply have to contact the FBI in order to charge the Pedraza brothers with the federal crime of circumventing DRM under the DMCA. Since they were convicted and ordered by judge Alsup to cease their law breaking, it should be easy to make this also a criminal charge.

The XBox Mod producer was similarly charged and now faces years in federal prison.

The Psystar Pedraza brothers may face the same prison sentence.

forget about law suites.if apple can give me a computer with intel core 2 duo 3.16 ghz processor,8gb ram,896 mb GTX 260,and blu ray capability below $1000.then i will vote for apple but otherwise i can get all these specifications in my computer with the help of Rbel EFI i will vote for psystar for sure.so people have the right to get the best for reasonable price.
