Apple tablet rumor mill back in action
Let the good times roll! The Apple iTablet rumor mill is back up and running, with a prediction that the announcement of the device is now imminent, perhaps as soon as next month!
This latest rumor is courtesy of the Financial Times. As is often the case, the paper did not cite any sources, but reported anyway that the iTablet could be announced as early as January. They are also saying that the introduction is to be timed to augment the announcement of a new era in entertainment for iTunes, according to a BizJournals story. Specifically, the Times is of the impression that Apple is getting ready to usher in the era of streaming video and music, a belief that is supported by a recent acquisition and and ongoing discussions with the producers of entertainment, such as Disney.
Industry pundits have been guessing at the existence of the iTablet for months, though Apple has yet to make its first comment on the matter. Supposedly, though, it is an uber-netbook with a 9-10 inch touchscreen and a price tag of $599 to $999. The phantom tablet computer has often been described as an iPod Touch on steroids. This all makes sense, in a way, given the purported capabilities of the tablet as a media player extraordinaire. That includes print media, by the way, as in e-reader, as well as the traditional music and video capabilities.
There are a number of pieces to the iTablet puzzle, from supply lines being readied to the media-device preparedness making ready movies, books, and streaming music on the mythical Apple tablet computer. The rumor mill has been so far out in front of this one, though, that the actual introduction may be somewhere between a yawn and a disappointment if Apple does not hit the nail exactly on the head. Even the Apple-buying public will only stand for so much hype before they being to wander away in droves, scratching their heads.
