Job listing hints at collaborative, cloud-based iWork apps

December 27, 2009

Whereas today’s iWork.com is definitely a “cloud lite” product, a more feature complete version could be in the works as the mothership advertises for new worker bees with mad JavaScript, browser, scalable rich Internet, presentation and collaboration development skillz. Losers need not apply.

The hot news this fine, fine day (Steelers, Steelers, Oy! Oy! Oy!) out of Cupertino is that Steve “stay hungry, stay foolish” Jobs has put his HR bloodhounds on the trail of a pack of new software developers with a collective skill set that says “cloud computing” in a big way. So, if you’ve got the right the istuff then the iWork team is looking for you:

Besides exceptional programming skills and devotion to creating great software, we look for one or more of the following kinds of expertise or experience:

• JavaScript language and browser technology – understanding from inside-out, or
• Computer graphics – the mathematics, algorithms and programming, or
• Experience developing scalable rich Internet application, or
• Experience developing presentation/collaboration or word processing projects

Of course, Apple already has an iWork cloud presence, but it’s merely a shell of what it could be (i.e. Google docs).

Although I’m a happy MobileMe subscriber that uses the iPhoto, iWeb, Backup and iSync integration, I really don’t see the joy in creating and keeping your stuff (only) in the cloud — there isn’t a web connection that fast or server that secure or safe. That said, I’d be all the happier if Apple created a mobile version of iWork designed to run on the iPhone and iPod touch…

What’s your take?
