Use MagicPrefs to make your Magic Mouse behave
Since its release last Fall, Apple’s Magic Mouse has sold exceptionally well, doubling the company’s share of the mouse market from 5 to 10 percent in under a half-year. That doesn’t mean, however, that this popular input device can’t be improved upon.
And, that’s where Vlad Alexa’s MagicPrefs comes into the picture. Yes, Magic Mouse and the Mac Pro together have been associated with some issues, and this free software fixes those problems — cool.
However, MagicPrefs is a lot more than a unofficial, third-party Magic Mouse fix, featuring the ability to bind any number of combination of clicks, taps, swipes, pinch and other gestures to go to OS X features like Expose, the Dashboard, Space, Spotlight searching and more.
Further, MagicPrefs brings added touch sensitivity to the Magic Mouse, implementing a single point control for a number of factors impacting the algorithms of the taps, swipes, pinch and other gestures. Users also benefit from the ability to trigger a tracking speed boost, up to 200 percent, a handy feature for today’s increasingly massive displays.
Dollar democracy
It’s interesting that, whereas many pundits feel compelled to complain about the device, deriding it for failing to adhere to mouse conventions, real people are buying this new fangled pointing device in a big way, doubling Apple’s share of the pointing device market from 5 to 10 percent in under a half year.
That said, I’m quite happy with a super cheapo $10 Logitech optical mouse and have been with little variation for more than a decade.

Personally, I find Better Touch Tool to be superior to MagicPrefs. MagicPrefs clogs up the menu bar with yet another menu. BTT can be in the menu bar, the dock, or as a preference pane.
