Apple planning 6 million iSlates in first year, says rumor
Were it not Taiwanese OEM manufacturers we would probably “know” a lot less about Apple’s upcoming tablet — Mac tablet, iTablet, iPod touch on steroids, nay, iSlate. The downside is, of course, these sources and the information dribbled out to the eager masses often can’t be relied upon.
CENS is running a “let’s run up our share price” article about Simplo Technology and Dynapack International, Taiwan’s top mobile battery makers, that states the companies will manufacture batteries for Apple’s iSlate tablet computing device coming on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Simplo will begin shipping product this month and Dynapack is expected to start filling orders in the third quarter. Further, the high-end lithium-ion polymer batteries to be used feature a slim, lightweight body and not a standard notebook battery.
The real meat in the CENS write up, however, is the statement that the quarterly sales estimate has been pegged at 1.5 million or 6 million per year, which a good deal less than an earlier and highly dubious guestimate from former Google China president Kai-Fu Lee.
What the report doesn’t tell us is whether the Apple plans to hit the ground running at 1.5 million units per quarter or plans to build up to, i.e. with the addtion of Dynapack in the third quarter, that number of over.
Whatever the case, 6 millions iSlates in the first year sounds like a much more plausible number…
What’s your take?
