Chrome for Mac finally gets extensions [some assembly required]

January 9, 2010

After many, many months of delay, Google has finally gotten themselves together enough to kind of sort of release an extensions capable version of Chrome for the Mac. It’s not quite ready for primetime, but it’s here and ready as it’s gonna be.

Google has posted a dev channel blog post announcing the availability of extensions ready version of Chrome for Mac. Granted, this is a dev channel release, so there are some (minimal) caveats.

This developer preview channel is where ideas get tested (and sometimes fail). The Dev channel can be very unstable at times, and new features usually require some manual configuration to be enabled. Still, simply using Dev channel releases is an easy (practically zero-effort) way for anyone to help improve Google Chrome.”

That said, given my increasing dissatisfaction with Firefox (slow start up, plodding performance, resource hungry) and the fact that extensions are here, specifically Shareaholic and FlashBlock, Chrome is now getting a workout on my Mac in order to see if it’s the best choice for the number browser spot in my workflow.

Get your very own copy of Chrome for Mac here (18MB).
