Quanta shipping 1 million Apple notebooks monthly

January 13, 2010

Yet another anecdote pointing to yet another superlative holiday quarter for our favorite fruit company. However, with analysts predicting about 3 million total Macs for the just concluded period, there’s a strong likelihood that Apple’s computer sales could greatly exceed those estimates.

Mac Blorge has previously reported on Apple’s blowout holiday shopping period with Mac sales estimates ranging from about 3 million to 3.3 million units — about a 10 percent range. However, fresh information out of Taiwan could point to even higher sales.

Specifically, it’s being reported that Quanta was assembling and shipping one million Apple portables per month by the end of 2009. Although it’s not clear if this means all three months or topped out at that level, Quanta is said to be optimistic that the mothership will maintain this level of demand going forward.

It’s worth noting that Quanta isn’t Apple’s exclusive notebook OEM and the 1 million unit per month rate attributed to Quanta doesn’t include Mac desktops or portable units produced by Hon Hai. Further, Mac Blorge reported that robust iMac and Mac mini sales were a main driver of strong holiday computer sales at Apple this year.

Of course, nothing’s certain until Apple reports results on Monday, Jan. 25. However, the portents indicate that 2008′s record holiday quarter, with its measly 2.5 million Macs sold, will seem like a speck in the rear view mirror…
