Apple C&D letter provides backhanded tablet confirmation
So, a website has received a “cease & desist” letter from Apple legal after they announced a “scavenger hunt” seeking proof of the existence of the company’s unannounced, but oh so lusted after tablet computing device. Does this constitute evidence of the device itself or Apple’s disdain for the contest?
You want one and so do I. Neither of us knows what the Apple tablet looks like or what exactly it will be able to do, but we want one just the same.
Enter ValleyWag and its now discontinued Apple tablet scavenger hunt and we at least know that the device is real. Maybe.
ValleyWag received a cease & desist letter from Apple legal telling the publication to pull the contest and, should anyone actually provide “proof,” immediately provide the info to Apple and refrain from publishing it:
Thereupon, given that ValleyWag assumes the letter is confirmation of the Apple tablet, they’re awarding the scavenger hunt prize to the signatory lawyer — nice touch.

So, a big hello to those happy people at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe (Apple’s legal beagles) and congratulations to Michael Spillner, hope you enjoy those steak knives…
What’s your take?
