‘The most important thing I’ve ever done,’ says Jobs about tablet
Hype and hubris mix and intermingle as we count down to the introduction of Apple’s “latest creation” on Wednesday. With the company reporting its holiday results today — likely another record quarter — the pressure on the Cupertino, California-based Mac, iPod, iPhone and tablet maker mounts, can they deliver?
On the subject of Apple’s iPhone and tablet over the last half year, Mike Arrington’s TechCrunch has a spotty record, delivering some real insights (iSlate LLC) and also some real dogs (the iSlate name). Today, they’re back with a straight quote being attributed to the iCEO himself — “This will be the most important thing I’ve ever done.â€
Thereupon, no context is offered and no specific person or name is being given credit for the insight. TechCrunch does say that the above quote has come from multiple second and third hand independent sources.
On tenterhooks
What ultimately transpires on Wednesday and whether or not the tablet is a hit aside, it’s been an extremely interesting ride to date. So interesting in fact that about one-in-five people, both fanboys and ordinary civilians, have said they’d buy Apple’s tablet sight unseen if given the chance.
Me? A lack of ready cash aside, I’m still a bit leery.
Then again, the bragging rights of being among the first would be worth at least $700 alone even if the one I got didn’t boot…
What’s your take?
