Apple cops to iMac yellow display issue
There are people out there who’ve had their 27-inch iMac fixed or replaced a half-dozen times and they still don’t have a useable product — really. Until today, however, Apple had never admitted that there was problem even though the company has issued at least three fixes.
That said, Apple issued a statement to Gizmodo, of all people, indicating that the most-recent 27-inch iMac patch, which was released on Feb. 1, has resolved the now infamous flickering/yellow display issue:
We’ve addressed the issues that caused display flickering and yellow tint. Customers concerned that their iMac is affected should contact AppleCare.
That’s it. That’s as close to a mea culpa as we’ll see from Apple on this issue — it’s fixed. Feel you’re affected? Contact AppleCare. Blessings.
Neither the twain shall meet…
Personally, I’ve felt well treated by Apple support and I’ve owned some notoriously troublesome products — several white MacBooks (cracking, dead hard drives), iBook G4s (dead displays) and iBook G3s (dead motherboards); all fixed quickly at no charge.
Nevertheless, Apple’s highly opaque and tightlipped handling of this particular issue has been far from exemplary.
Still, Cupertino regularly tops customer satisfaction and service surveys, quarter after quarter, year after after…
Go figure.

After over-paying for a piece of mediocrity, of course they’ll fib, don’t like to acknowledge their foibles. Now most of the saps are willingly accepting the yellow screens, admitting it’s a feature. That’s really lame. I’m waiting for the big class-action suit. How can they keep knowingly selling defective items, and slough off their faithful flock with a “one screen replacement, now piss off” deal?
