Judge rules for Jobs, Jackling shack to be torn down
The massive 30 room, 17,250 square foot monument to industrial excess and environmental degradation is mold, rot and critter infested and hasn’t been occupied for decade. Now, barring action by an appellate court, its historic elements will be preserved and a new 5,000-square-foot, environmentally friendly home for the Apple CEO and his family will rise in its place.
BusinessWeek reports that a judge has ruled in Steve Jobs favor, allowing him to demolish the one-time home of Daniel C. Jackling, the man who created massive (viewable from space) open pit Bingham Canyon copper mine.
“Barring a ruling by an appeals court, he is free to take the house down,†City Manager Susan George said.
Jobs has made arrangements to preserve the historic elements of the copper magnate’s home and will pay some $600,000 to see the work completed.
The demolition of Jobs one-time domocile has been held up for years by Uphold Our Heritage, a self-appointed preservation group that lacked for everything except lawyers.
