Mac sales up 43 percent in February, says NPD
Whatever oxygen — think profit — was left in the consumer computer market is now or will soon be owned by Apple. Whereas Mac sales grew steadily throughout most of the recession, now Apple’s computer sales are quite literally booming.
AllThingsD is reporting the latest data from market metrics firm NPD, as well as analysis from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who has declared 2010 the “year of the Mac.” The talking points are as follows:

- • February Mac sales up 43 percent over 2009
• March quarters Mac volume up 39 percent (first two months) over 2009
• Munster expects Apple will sell from 2.8 to 2.9 million Macs this frame
• iPod units are up 7 percent for January and February over the same period last year
Mac Blorge previously reported that January Mac sales shot up by 33 percent over the same month last year.
Of course, these are “easy” comps for Apple given that last year’s March quarter was the first to show a decline in Mac volumes in at least four years. Nevertheless, this latest analyst guestimated data follows the company’s best ever holiday and, with the economy now starting to look up, Munster may be remembered as the prescient one who declared 2010 to be the “year of the Mac”…
What’s your take?
