Continuing with its recent acquisitions spree, Apple has purchased software company Siri, which has been offering a Web-based, voice-usable personal assistant service, giving Apple more punch for mobile search.

Is Apple’s CEO among the 100 most influential people (queue gawd invoking reverb effect) in the world? Although it’s easy to overstate his contributions to the commercial, artist and intellectual currents that move us, there’s no question Steve Jobs will be something more than a footnote in a dying treeware publication.

The executive quoted in the PR is Scott Forstall, who manages iPhone software, and the Mac OS is mentioned as an “as well as” part of the event. Truly, the rest of us aren’t feeling the love.

Apple has bought its second chipmaker/designer in two years, this time an Austin-based company called Intrinsity, a company which is rumored to have lent a hand in the design of the iPad processor.

Whoever came up with the idea of letting the Apple CEO answer customer emails, should get a big raise. Thereupon, the softer side of Apple’s CEO shows through in an email exchange with a fan whose girlfriend died waiting for an organ transplant.

All indications are that Apple has told a number of Japanese online retailers of Apple products that they must stop taking orders, allegedly because those resellers are discounting Apple products against Apple reseller policies.

Somehow, over the weekend, a rumor got started that when OS X 10.7 is released, it will come with an app store for the Mac, and thus with control over what software you can run. Not true, folks, not true.
