How to: Download and convert YouTube music, videos [again]
I’m always on the lookout for a better way to download and convert YouTube content. From videos to music, there’s a wealth of stuff out and, given a little time, developers continually present us with better ways of getting it.
When it comes to easy, downloading YouTube video directly from Safari’s Activity Window is pretty slick. Still, using this method requires you to convert that content from .flv (video wrapped in Flash) into something actually useful.
That said, I’ve been a Videobox fan for sometime now, though that application will cost you $15.
Fastest Free YouTube Downloader does the same job and, as advertised, it’s free. Also, setting up this app to do a conversion is bit easier and offers the ability to boost the sound level — YouTube music is sounds soft after conversion — which is a nice feature.
The downside with Fastest Free YouTube Downloader is it doesn’t work with non-YouTube URLs and content, whereas VideoBox generally does work…

FiFtHeLeMeNt: Fastest Free YouTube downloader works great right now, it did not break after YouTube disabed get_video. Moreover, 3GP is a rather inferior format to encode to – Fastest Free YouTube downloader has that format, but generally converts to mp3 or mp4 which are of much higher quality.
Great review Ronald, btw. It would be cool if FFYD could handle more sites to download from, but it’s new so perhaps in future releases?
