New MacBook Pros, they’re finally here!

Better battery life, Intel’s latest chips and an interesting combination of nVidia GT 330M plus Intel integrated HD Graphics are among the highlights of this long-expected update of Apple’s popular pro-level notebook product line.

Apple has announced the updated the MacBook Pro line with faster processors, powerful improved NVIDIA graphics and even longer battery life.

“The new MacBook Pro is as advanced on the inside as it is stunning on the outside,” said Philip Schiller, senior vice president, Worldwide Product Marketing. “With faster processors, amazing graphics and up to three more hours of battery life, the new MacBook Pro delivers both performance and efficiency.”

Notable changes in the 13-inch MacBook Pro line include:

    • • Two configurations — 2.4GHz ($1,199), 2.66GHz ($1,499)
      • GeForce 320M graphics w/ 48 processing cores
      — AppleInsider reports this is a custom, Apple-only integrated solution
      • 10-hour built-in battery
      — Not user replaceable
      • Now ship w/ 4GB RAM
      • Available 128GB, 256GB, or even 512GB SSDs

Notable changes in the 15- and 17-inch lines include:

    • • Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, 32nm process
      — Integrated memory control and Level 3 cache
      — Up to 2.66GHz and 3.06GHz (dual core) speeds and up to 3.33GHz (single core) speed via Turbo Boost technology
      • Automated graphics switching technology with nVidia GT 330M w/ 256MB or 512MB and Intel HD Graphics
      • Eight to nine hour battery life
      • 15-inch models are available w/ glossy and matte displays
      • Available 128GB, 256GB, or even 512GB SSDs

Additionally, MacBook Pro glass Multi-Touch trackpads now support inertial scrolling, an intuitive way to scroll through large photo libraries, lengthy documents and long web sites. The mothership is again marketing the MacBook Pro as the “industry’s greenest notebook lineup,” claiming EPEAT Gold status and Energy Star 5.0 compliance for all models.

Neither the MacBook nor MacBook Air have been updated.
