Apple shuffles board of directors
In the wake of director Jerome York’s unexpected passing, the mothership has reassigned several of its board members, which now number just six individuals including CEO Steve Jobs, to stay in compliance with its internal corporate governance rules.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has reshuffled personnel and responsibilities on its board of directors following Jerry York’s unexpected death in March.
Thereupon, Avon CEO Andrea Jung has been added to the company’s audit committee and been appointed chair of the compensation committee, replacing Intuit chairman Bill Campbell. Further Genentech chairman Authur Levinson now co-chairs the audit committee with Campbell, a position held by York during his 12 years on Apple’s board.
A long and varied career
According to the Wikipedia, Jerry York was the chairman, president and CEO of Harwinton Capital. He was the former CFO of IBM and Chrysler, and was CEO of Micro Warehouse. He joined the board of directors of Apple in 1997 and served until his death.
York was regarded as a turn around specialist and distinguished himself in that regard at Apple.
Further, WSJ notes that the mothership has yet to name York’s successor and that it’s unclear whether it will do so.
