What’s new in iTunes 9.2
The imminent arrival of the iPhone 4 and iOS 4 means a fresh version of iTunes to enable all those new features, but is there anything inside for the rest of us? In a word, no, but there are details to be chewed over especially if you own an older iPhone or iPod touch.
As expected, Apple released iTunes 9.2 (101.99MB), which is all about getting you ready, whether you’ll be using ‘em or not, iOS 4 and iPhone 4. That said, here’s what’s new in the mothership’s kitchen sink — music, movie, book and device manager plus everything store — app for the Mac and Windows:
- • Sync with iPhone 4 to enjoy your favorite music, movies, TV shows, books and more on-the-go
• Sync and read books with iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4 and iBooks 1.1
• Organize and sync PDF documents as books. Read PDFs with iBooks 1.1 on iPad and any iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4
• Organize your apps on your iOS 4 home screens into folders using iTunes
• Faster back-ups while syncing an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4
• Album artwork improvements make artwork appear more quickly when exploring your library
• Various security updates

Thereupon, iOS 4 is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, though the latter two devices won’t be able to take advantage of the advanced video functionality and the 3G only gets a little help in the multitasking department.
Likewise, iOS is compatible with the second and third-generation iPod touch, though not all features work on both models. For example, multitasking, custom wallpaper and Bluetooth keyboard support are available only with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).
