The Verizon iPhone rumors never die
If science is still looking for the answer to the fabled perpetual motion problem, they should be able to stop now; obviously, the rumors about the iPhone being sold by Verizon will go around and around forever.
There have been so many rumors about the Verizon iPhone that they have taken on a life of their own, clearly separate from the reality of Apple handsets only via AT&T. It has formed a mythology that is beginning to rival that of Odin and the Norse gods, Zeus and his buddies in the mythology of Greece, the Vishnu crowd in Indian mythology, and countless others. The iPherizon myths begin and end with Apple’s iPhone being dramatically transported to the secret headquarters of Verizon, where a CDMA iPhone springs full-grown from the forehead of Steve Jobs, complete with a Verizon logo. And then… Well, and then there is nothing. Absolutely nothing at all.
As mythologies go, the iPherizon (also known as Applezon) myths are boring on the extreme. It is a one-trick mythology. Perhaps that is because there are so many people involved in the telling, none of whom have any actual knowledge of the situation. Neither Verizon nor Apple has contributed much to the growth of this body of legend; instead, a veritable plethora of reporters, bloggers, industry analysts, industry pundits and others have each taken a shot at a scenario in which the iPhone could appear at a Verizon store near you. In truth, the only way that ever happens is if an AT&T customer chaperones a friend to that Verizon store.
The latest rumor? According to a story in USA Today, the iPhone will be available at Verizon in January. Presumably, that means January 2011, but the rumor will probably be just as useful in 2012 and perhaps later. In some minds, the death grip with which AT&T hold onto the iPhone is proof that Steve Jobs is not perfect. Otherwise, how could the best smartphone have wound up exclusively on the worst wireless network and stayed there for this long? Only Steve knows for sure.

Being a big iphone fan, I was surprised at how this phone did little to ‘wow’ me. It’s not the be all-end all it was hyped to be. Sure, it’s much faster than my old 3G, but that seems to be the only bright spot. To tell you the truth, the design is not so fantastic, and now it feels more ‘squarish’ in my pocket, whereas my old 3G felt more natural.
