Apple announces 33% Mac growth, 3.27m iPads sold

Analysts set the expectations and the mothership inevitably knocks ‘em. Mac and iPhone unit volumes both posted excellent double-digit growth, and Apple’s latest creation, the iPad, also delivered high unit volume, selling more than a quarter-million units in the last few days of the period.

A pair of congressmen demanded answers from Apple about how and why it collects iPhone and iPad GPS user data, and they got answer. Granted, the information was already available, but reading as opposed to calling a press conference wouldn’t have gotten either man any headlines and it is after all an election year.

The district attorney is backing off and Gawker Media, the parent of Gizmodo, has agreed to cooperate with the investigation. The only apparent losers here are the lawyers and, of course, Brian Hogan who’s apparently still gonna be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Thiner, lighter and something of a template for other Apple products. Plus, as presaged by the iPhone 4, the iPod touch will also arrive with Apples custom A4 SOC inside, though the camera won’t be quite as potent as one in its smartphone big brother.
