And, never the twain shall meet, because the iPad can’t multitask. Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration as Apple’s tablet will gain that functionality in the Fall with the release of iOS 4.1. In the meantime, new and recent iPhone and iPod touch owners can enjoy fast app switching, the ability to play audio from their iDisk and more.

Although the iPhone 4 reception problem is getting most of the attention, Apple still has that pesky proximity sensor issue to get around, equally important because it also can cause your phone calls to disappear.

The iPhone and, as soon as some Android-powered competitors arrive, iPad are doomed, or so go the daily reports about why and how open will crush closed. Nevertheless, there’s no indication from the real world that’s happening, at least as far as developers (the kind that make money), are concerned.

In a fairly charitable move for any manufacturer these days, Apple has announced that they will not charge a restocking fee for returned iPhone 4 handsets if returned because of the reception problem.

Honestly, I don’t much care for digging through boxes, etc in our semi-finished basement — silver fish, centipedes and spiders, oh my! But, there are those who actually enjoy crawling around, flashlight clenched firmly in their teeth, around inside the bowels of every Apple software release. Thanks be to those with these proclivities as they’re always coming up with something new and interesting about the computers we love.
