PC sales circle the bowl in July
So, if the PC sales feel off the table a month ahead of back-to-school, how optimistic were these companies feeling about the big student and teacher buying season? Moreover, what do you wanna bet this phenomenon isn’t affecting Apple and Mac sales?
JP Morgan analyst Christopher Danely claims that checks with Taiwanese hardware OEMs have revealed that Acer, HP and Lenovo, as well as unnamed others, cut their notebook and chip orders in July. Specifically, he says that computer shipments have suddenly fallen off a cliff.
All of the major markets — China, Europe and the US — are experiencing slowdowns and an oversupply of notebooks. The cutback in orders means companies are seeking to clear the glut.
That said, with Apple in the midst of their popular free iPod touch with new Mac purchase for students, educators and their families, not to mention coming off the best quarter in its history, I’m betting that Mac orders and sales aren’t being affected.
Wha d’ya think? Yet another record quarter for Apple as the competition flounders…
What’s your take?
