iTunes music samples to be twice as nice
That nefarious lot otherwise know as “sources” claims that Apple will increase the length of music samples by an order of magnitude (the industry’s still doomed). Maybe this small tidbit will be Steve Jobs’ “one more thing” come Wednesday’s “acoustic guitar with an Apple logo sound hole” event?
News.com, quoting multiple unnamed sources with knowledge of such things, states that Apple’s annual September media event, where we always get new iPods and sometimes other stuff, will mark the arrival of iTunes Music Store samples that are twice as long, expanding from 30 seconds to a full minute.
Interestingly, News.com makes comparisons to Pandora and YouTube, services where users can enjoy full-length versions of commercial songs that are quite illegal to download to your Mac and enjoy on your iPod. Of course, they’re right, but all naughty boys and girls know exactly how to get the music they love out of YouTube and out of Pandora.
That said, I wonder who’s behind the move to double the length of song samples, Apple or the record labels? Given the dearth of 69-cent songs on iTunes, I’m guessing it wasn’t the music industry middlemen…
What’s your take?
