As expected, the mothership has shipped their big n’ powerful pro tower which brings with plenty of crunchy and fibery hardware goodness, like up to 12 Xeon Westmere processor cores and significantly faster ATI graphics. However, the rumor that iLife ’10 would arrive in the same timeframe hasn’t come true.

Mark Papermaster, the fellow in charge of iPhone development at Apple, is heading out the door (apparently with a red face), enough to make one think that the company may believe Antenna-gate is a big deal after all.

Not 70% penetration, but Mac gains still big on campus

One of last week’s big headlines, attributable to analyst Trip Chowdhry and reported as fact both here and elsewhere, was that 70 percent of incoming college freshman would be carrying Macs. At least one respected source disputes that claim, though the situation’s poor and getting worse for Microsoft in this crucial market.

A recent analyst report sent Microsoft shares lower on concerns the software giant has lost the war for young hearts and minds. Now, over a decade of student computer use data out of the “state for lovers” backs the conclusion that Redmond is increasingly out of sight and mind on campus.

Eric Schmidt is very pleased with himself. He has breathlessly announced that cellular phones running the Android operating system are being activated 200,000 times per month and still growing.

Apple takes aim at Chinese mobile game maker

The Middle Kingdom is still the “IT” place for investment and the mothership is going after an Internet service provider that just happens to be an RIA (rich Internet application) developer. Although I’m just guessing, I suspect Apple isn’t buying the company for their fine stable of Flash developers.
