Although Microsoft just posted record revenues, the company’s future appears cloudy at best as young users overwhelmingly choose not just the Mac, but also to eschew Redmond’s bread and butter office productivity suite. The age old lesson, “get ‘em when they’re pups,” seems to have been utterly lost on the software giant.

After the release of Mac OS 10.6.4, many Mac gamers, as well as a top game maker, complained that the operating system update hit performance. Although Apple hasn’t made any public statements on the matter, it appears the company has heard customers and is preparing to act.

When they bought Lala half a year ago, Apple was thought to be heading full bore into the realm of music played from the data cloud, but it now seems like they have no near-term intention to capitalize on the purchase.

According to the attorney general of the state of Connecticut, Apple and Amazon have made deals with major book publishers which may amount to price-fixing, robbing consumers of purchasing choices.

If you’re an Office user and haven’t yet purchased the 2008 version of Microsoft’s productivity suite, Redmond’s got a deal for you. So, if you’ve been eying a new Mac for back-to-school (i.e. don’t forget Apple’s free iPod touch offer), now’s a pretty good time to buy.

Sometime over the weekend, Apple took down the videos it previewed at its Antenna-gate press conference, showing clips of the handsets of competitors losing signal strength if gripped incorrectly.
