iLife ’11 Family Pack placeholder appears on Amazon [u]
Apple generally puts out two sets of updated product every year in the run up to Christmas — new iPods, which we’ve already seen, and spec bumped Macs, which haven’t yet been outed. That said, the best time for the mothership to introduce software for the Mac would be alongside new hardware.
A sharp-eyed fan came across iLife ’11 Family Pack on Amazon. It’s tagged at $99 — no surprise there — and has been listed since July 27.
There’s no image available and no inkling about when iLife ’11 will be available for purchase.
Past as prologue
On Wednesday of last week, Steve Jobs introduced new iPods, saying that they’d be available this week along with iOS 4.1 for the iPhone and iPod touch. Whereas the precise timing varied somewhat from years past, we’ve seen this chain of events play out year after year.
Given that Apple is a creature of habit and generally announces updated Mac hardware around the first week of October that would seem a reasonable timeframe for the delivery of iLife ’11 and, one supposes, iWork ’11. So, yes, it’s been a bit short of two years since iLife ’09 shipped and there is a Mac hardware update likely just around the corner.
Although we’ve seen a steady stream of iLife ’10 placeholder pages on Amazon, etc. since Spring that came to naught, if you quint a little, it would appear that the stars are aligning for a Mac software update…
[u] Various sources now report the placeholder page has vanished.
What’s your take?
