Do Google and Schmidt suffer from Apple envy?
No matter what it is that Apple announces, you can be sure that Google will not be too far behind with a similar product. What’s up with this Apple envy? Do Jobs and Schmidt have a side bet?
I suppose, in retrospect, that it should have been easy to see it coming. Steve Jobs talked about a new and improved Apple TV and now Eric Schmidt (remember him, he’s with Google) says that Google is going to go head to head with them on this TV thing, whatever that is. It seems like an exact replay of a day or two before, when Steve Jobs talked about improving iTunes and Google said they were going to begin offering a music download service, also totally out of the blue. And we all remember, of course, that Apple has done pretty well selling their smartphone thingamajig, and Eric and Google decided to give that a try, too. That didn’t work out too well, of course. It was, actually, a disaster.
One must wonder if, despite having billions of itsy bitsy ads sold, like the McDonalds of advertising, Schmidt and Google have some sort of reflexive inadequacy syndrome going on. On stage at an even in Berlin, Schmidt said, according to The Money Times, “Once you have Google television, you’re going to be very busy. It’s going to ruin your evening.” Yes, Eric, Google is sure to be able to rework the way the world watches television, much the way that it reworked the way people meet and greet each other on the Web, you know, with that fabulous Wave product of theirs. Oh wait, sorry, that one bombed too, didn’t it?
Coming from a company as successful as Google and a CEO (supposedly) as successful as Schmidt, this behavior seems just a little bizarre. Why does the company who made search what it is today, and which makes millions in the context-sensitive advertising arena it invented, suddenly stop innovating and become a devoted copier of all things Apple? Worse, so many of Google’s recent forays into new markets have been ill-thought-out and were doomed from the beginning. Take a deep breath, Eric. Go back to being the inventive rascal of a company that you once were.
In stop succumbing to Apple envy and go back to doing no evil.

google hate on “mac.blorge”?! what is the world coming to!
do yourself a favor and learn the differences between (the new) apple TV and google TV … they are pretty much completely different devices. I guess both having the word “TV” is too hard for you to look past. BTW, did you also forget that Google TV was announced months ago?
As for the Google music service are just rumors, so your poor attempt to claim that their “announcement” coming days after a iTunes announcement is unfounded.
please try to stop polluting the web with more lies and misinformation.
(P.S. do i really need to point out everything Apple has copied from other people? The tech world is a place where everyone copies from everyone else. To claim that Google has not had any innovation lately is just ignorant)

Google-Schmidt’s like the kid with pissy pants who aped and followed you round in primary school. I feel sorry for Apple.

Without Apple to copy what exactly would they do? Most of what they come up with on their own crashes and burns…I’d like to see Apple copy Googles bread and butter and come out with their own brand search service…Hell they could practically give it away to the advertisers just like google is giving away android…Come on Apple, stop playing nice! Take some of those billions sitting there doing nothing and deliver an epic beat-down to google!

Google, Apple, Hulu, Amazon, etc…they’re all jumping on the bandwagon. There are already services out there that do the same thing and they are a lot cheaper.
