11.6-inch MacBook Air: ‘This thing is fast’
There are a lot of talking heads talking about Apple’s new ultraportable with the banter centers on the specs and we know how that usually turns out. Well, for at least one notable blogger, actually laying hands on and using the new MacBook Air is more important.
Leander Kahney of Wired and more recently Cult of Mac fame published a quick note on his impressions of the 11.6-inch MacBook Air before he rushed out the door for a weekend Scouting trip with his boy:
Holy Mackerel this thing is fast! 46 tabs in Safari and 21 in Chrome; 18 open applications, including hogs like Safari, Mail and iTunes.
No spinning beachballs!
There’s no slowdown whatsoever. It’s amazing. This thing flies. It’s the $999 11-inch MacBook with only 2GBytes of RAM — the machine people said would be underpowered. But it’s not. Not by a long shot.
It’s the fastest laptop I’ve used in years, and Apple is going to sell boatloads of them. It’s very exciting.

Kahney’s been a Mac fan, some might say hardcore, for years and we should perhaps take his words with a full shaker of salt. Still, if you’ve got an Apple Store in the neighborhood, get out and give the new MacBook Air a try.
Then come back and share your impressions below…
What’s your take?
