It may not be exactly the Apple product that we wanted at Verizon, but the two companies announced this morning that the iPad will be available from Verizon stores beginning on Oct. 28.

Back in 2007 when Acer purchased Gateway, the combined companies’ unit volume pushed Apple from the number three spot in the US. Now, although it took a couple years, the mothership’s returned the favor, but without the aid of an acquisition or other artificial stimulants, and they did it without reckoning iPad sales.

Finally, an Apple media event that isn’t about the iPhone, iPad or even iPod — we hope. As you can see from the graphic, the mothership has settled on “Lion” for the next iteration of Mac OS X, though it wouldn’t surprise if the name was actually a riff on the word, like “pride.”
