The closest thing to Microsoft software on my Mac is Flip4Mac, a set of third-party codecs that allows .wmv, etc. video to play on Apple computers. But, there are plenty of folks for whom Office, Outlook and a Windows smartphone are just parts of life.

Well, that statement’s a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much. In recent weeks, the Apple tablet went on sale at Target and Best Buy completed its nationwide retail roll out. Starting this Friday, the mother-of-all big box retailers will join the fray, as well.

The phrase “There’s an app for that” has been a part of Apple’s promotion of the iTunes app store and the iPhone for some time, and they have now formalized their usage rights with a U.S. Trademark.

Not a heckuva lot of money, yet one imagines that cashing out was only part of the goal here. Yes, the Mac Museum of New Jersey will soon be no more, though the collection will go to a single owner thus keeping the flame alive.

What began as iTools back in 2000 evolved into dot Mac by 2002. That service began to fade to gray as it was displaced by MobileMe in 2008. Now, more than two years later, Apple’s finally pulling the plug, but fret not because your stuff will still be there.

At first blush, and given the recent enmity between Steve Jobs and certain people at Adobe, it seems ludicrous to suggest that Apple buy Adobe. But there are some pretty good points in favor of such a deal.

Gigabytes and gigabytes of stuff — movies, music, TV shows, photos, apps, audiobooks and ebooks. Although it’s possible to share our “stuff” to varying degrees via iTunes, it’s extremely time consuming and anything but seamless. So, Apple it’s time to step up.

Yes, Apple’s almost ultraportable portable is badly in need of a makeover and not just a little Botox. Further, if past is prologue, then it’s likely that iMac, MacBook and/or MacBook Pro refreshes are in the cards, as well. And, don’t forget those persistent iLife ’11 release rumors.
